Spring Creek Service Unit Meeting

January 11, 2012

6 PM Ruby Mountain Pizza

The meeting was called to order at 6:02pm by Josephine Reid. Those in attendance were Shirley King, Lynn Giraudo, Natalie Harding, Marie Manning, Debbie Stanton, Susan Borresch, D. Wolford, Amy Dawson, Heather Wines, Jenna Campbell, Amanda Bailie, Alicia Moore, D. Patterson, Chantry Harris.   Josephine sent around a roster of those who registered between the early bird dates and the on-time registration dates so that the leaders could put down t-shirt sizes for those that qualify.

Treasurer’s report included the amount in the trust fund of $661.48.  Amount in the Checking account is $ 587.10 and the camp account holds $661.90 which was reported to this acting secretary at a later date.

Josephine stated that recruitments she held in November and December resulted in a few sign-ups but she would really like to get some volunteers to help with the recruitments and is open to any ideas and/or events for recruitment.

The Girl Scout Birthday Party is March 12th at the Girl Scout House from 6:30-7:30 pm. If you would like to help decorate the Girl Scout House, you may show up at 6pm.  Council will provide the cake and send 4 songs for all the scouts to sing at the same time.  They will send instructions for the girls to make a swap. There will be a 100th Birthday Patch available and Josephine will be sending out an e-mail as she will need to know how many girls are planning to come so that she has a patch count.

Deadline for Adult Award Recognitions are due on March 9th.  April 28th is the delegate meeting and awards dinner in Reno.  Josephine stressed that it is very important that the adults within Girl Scouts are recognized for the services that they provide for our girls. She will send out an e-mail when the online recognition forms are available through the council.

Cookie News:  Cookies will arrive at Marie Manning’s home sometime during the week of February 16th. Marie’s home is located at 298 Northglen Drive. Debbie Stanton has set up a calling tree to let everyone know when the cookies arrive.  Please e-mail Debbie your contact information, as it is imperative that your troop get their cookies on the day that they arrive and that the cookie moms inform their parents to assure that the timeline is followed.  Debbie’s e-mail is wonderbunsmom@yahoo.com.  Also Marie will need help in counting cases, sorting, and distributing the cookies that day.    Josephine has post-it notes for sale for $.99 that your girl can put on the doors of the homes that are visited during preorder sales. Josephine will be out of the country and unavailable from February 1st – February 16th.  Amanda Bailey will be available to answer questions about cookies during this time (397-8618). Josephine will have the cookie cupboard available every Friday during Booth Sales from 9am – 4pm with the exception of the last Friday.  Sign up on SNAP for your booth sales on the 17th. You can sign up for one booth location per day. Wal-Mart location sign ups are this Saturday at the GSH from 10-10:30.

Thinking Day will once again be held with the Elko Service Unit in the Spring Creek Middle School Multi-purpose room on February 18th from 10am – 12pm. Natalie Harden sent out a wonderful packet via e-mail and with some of the activities, the girls can earn a pin that they can wear on the FRONT of their uniforms.  There is a cost of $1 to cover the cost of the patch.  Natalie requests that you get your first two choices of a country e-mailed to her ASAP at desertrat4ever@frontiernet.net.

Troop 389 (Amy Dawson) will be doing the Girl Scout Birthday Baby Basket for the first Spring Creek female baby born during the week of March 12th.  All troops should donate to this basket with either a monetary donation, or items for a newborn baby girl. These donations are due to Amy at the next Service Unit Meeting.

There will be a summer Day Camp held in Elko at the Girl Scout House during the last week in July.   Josephine will provide more information as it comes available. Tentative Date for Cowboy’s Rest Troop Camp is August 6-9. Shirley King will provide more information as it becomes available. Both camp coordinators will need help with planning and programming. Last years CRTC patches still need to be ordered.

If you need to be reimbursed for a Service Unit Activity, fill out the Service Unit request for check found on the Spring Creek Service Unit website and mail it along with ORIGINAL receipts to:  Shirley King, PO Box 173, Elko NV 89803.

Next Service Unit meeting will be held at Ruby Mountain Pizza at 6pm on February 29th.
